News and Announcements 1) Upcoming Events 7/15 SEARS Meeting 9/2-4/2006 Paradise 10/14 Cochise Perimeter Cycling Classic 2) Paradise 27th Anniversary Outing - Just a reminder that we are getting closer to the annual Paradise outing and training event. As always, we will be using the Labor Day weekend as a training event to provide an opportunity to familiarize RACES members with the MCU and its various capabilities. Since it is still relatively new, there are a number of members who will benefit from this opportunity. We will depart from Green Acres in Sierra Vista at 7:30 on Saturday and convoy to the Ghost Town of Paradise to set up and operate over the weekend. Bob needs a headcount for the permit from the Forest Service so please let him know before the 1st of August if you intend to join us for the weekend. Thanks. Training - On our last net we introduced a report called the Situation Report or SITREP. The purpose of this report is to provide emergency managers in the county and also at the state Emergency Operations area a brief description of the situation or incident occurring in your community. Tonight we will introduce some of the types of incidents that we are interested in along with an event identifier to assist management to quickly categorize the response effort: Event Identifier Air Crash FALLEN STAR Airborne Poison Gas POISONED AIR Biological Event BAD BUG Bombing Incident LOUD BANG Bridge Damage/Loss LOST SUPPORT Chemical Spill POISONED GROUND Civil Unrest/Riot BAD MAGIC Damaging Hail FALLING ICE Earthquake ROLLING THUNDER Flooding TALL WATER Forest/Ground Fire SCORCHED EARTH Gas Leak/Explosion HOT AIR High Winds MIGHTY WINDS Hurricane HURRICANE Icy Roads (Large area) BLACK ICE Interstate/Strategic Hwy BLOCKED LANE Blocked or damaged Major Communications Outages LOST COMM long distance or Internet Nuclear Event NUCLEAR GRAYSTONE Oil Spill on water DARK WATER Power Outage (Major) DARK DAY Search/Rescue SECURE HAVEN Terrorist Threat/Attack HIDDEN SHADOW Tornado VIOLENT TWISTER Train Wreck/Derailment BROKEN TRACKS Volcano Eruption BRAZEN BRIMSTONE Water Dam Broken FAST WATER Winter Snow Storms WHITE BLANKET We are also looking at using color codes to quickly identify status of the various utility categories such as: GREEN - Fully Operational, no problems reported, no further explanation required. AMBER - Partially Operational, provide a short description. RED - Major problems, provide additional short description. GRAY - Information for that category is unavailable and unknown. The color codes are generally used in preparing briefing charts for the incident commander and will be discussed in greater detail in the future. That's all for this evening, let's go down the roster for comments. Bob should be back for the next net on the 26th.
